gallery How to, Make a Wind Catcher

Woohoo! It’s Friday! Must mean that it’s project time.

Take a look at this picture and see if you can find things that are similar so you can make this project.

The feathers, buttons, beads and acorns are to dangle from the Wind Catcher so you can change these to what-ever you like. Old keys, paper butterflies, ribbons…

Ok, you’ve found your bits n bobs? Let’s get cracking.

(For size reference, my sticks are 15cm long, ish. )

Cross your sticks.

Choose which colour wool you want to start with and tie it around the middle of both sticks.

At this point expect the whole thing to be fairly wibbly wobbly.

At this point you just need to wrap the wool around and around. Change colour when ever you like. I have added a video so you can see how I have done it.

( No audio for this video. )

Now you get to add your found things. Choose which way up you want to have your Wind Catcher. The tie things to dangle down on each side stick, and on the bottom stick.

Once you have tied on a string you can hang it up! Awesomes!

  1. What a fantastic project! My 8 year old girls loved this and it kept them busy for ages. Definitely one to do again when they next have friends over – thanks so much.
